IT professionals have a status and reputation to build and protect. They can loose face by stating the obvious and publishing common sense. Expert advice is invaluable in the short term. Absorb as much as you can but temper any expert opinion with common sense. The Internet is an evolving system like the weather. Expert advice in the medium and long term is no more reliable than the long term weather forecast. Always trust your own common sense. Trust nothing but your own area of expertise. Apply simple jungle law and you will not go very far wrong.

There is no point in joining any matrix program, downline builder, safe list or MLM unless you have a very large mailing list or a huge network of people who already buy from you. Only a very small minority earn anything from these programs. They are the biggest time and money wasters and useless for newcomers. Never buy leads

Don’t try to promote their pre written emails, or so called professionally written advertising copy. Most of the affiliate products and services promoted in that manner are either yesterday’s news or The Emperor’s New Clothes. If they are not, you can bet that they have been seen time and time again. Write a personal recommendation for the products that you use and sell online. You need to make a name for yourself in online affiliate marketing and advertise that fact before you will see many sales rolling in.

IIf you walk down your local High Street, you will get plenty of clues. Ask yourself what people are buying in the shops, that would be cheaper and or better, if they were delivered to a customer’s computer? There are masses of products, that you may be able to promote and sell in your own back yard. Have a look in the local shops. Could you sell subscriptions to some of the expensive magazines on the shelves? Could you locate rare books, video tutorials, sheet music, greeting cards, knitting and crochet patterns, maps or interactive tutorials, which you could sell to local people, as an Internet marketing affiliate? Use a bit of imagination. Little boys and grumpy old men like steam train pictures. A lot of people can’t resist cat pictures. Add a few to any web site that you want to promote.

Pay per click search engines are more business oriented than the major search engines and it is easier to locate a business or affiliate opportunity on the ppc variety. Try a search on two dedicated business opportunity engines. Keep trying. It takes a while to know the right key words and phrases to use for the products and services which would be the most suitable your your chosen affiliate marketing business.

There are thousand of suppliers offering free web sites and free web building templates. Most are riddled with viruses, spyware, popups and other malware. You can whittle the selection down to a handful, if you look for those that also provide you with premium web hosting. The suppliers will not risk these nasties on their own servers. Choose an on line identity, which people will remember and associate with your products and services. If you want to market vegetarian products, use a name like “Reggie The Veggie.” Brand everything with the name of the web site that you intend to promote. Use Reggie The Veggie as your name when you sign up for an affiliate program. Use it on the traffic exchanges. Plaster the name everywhere until it becomes a recognised brand name.
You will not make money online until members of several online communities know your name and face.

The best advertising tool known to the human race is a pair of shapely boobs! Print the name on some tee shirts and persuade all your boob owning friends to give you a hand by flaunting the name of your web site in public places. Use leaflets, local ads and business cards to start the snowball rolling. People are far more likely to give you a genuine e-mail address, if they have met you or they know that you live locally. It is the easiest way to build an email marketing list. Locals to whom you have spoken or met in person will always be your best customers. Customers in online communities and social networking groups will be the next best source of income. Start creating business relationships and making “Internet Friends.“ It takes time to build good relationships in any community. Select Internet Friends carefully. A list of 100 people who know you well, is better than one of 5,000 who have never heard of you and see nothing but mass produced affiliate links and sales spiel on your pages.

You may be a newcomer to Internet marketing but your experience in other fields could impress a lot of professional network marketers. Don’t feel shy about publishing anything within your field of expertise. You must have plenty to offer experienced computer wizards in the way of new ideas and new products. Do they know very much about the things that you know? These computer whiz kids are your potential customers, people who need to share ideas and services with you. They may know more than you do about computer viruses and worms but they may not know what bug is destroying their roses or how to cope with a new strain of worms in a dog.
